WHAT YEAR DOES YOUR STORY TAKE PLACE: Around 1826

WHAT RIGHTS WERE THE PERSON DENIED: The rights to be a free person in charge of her own life, as well as not being educated, or a free person.

HOW DID SHE DEAL WITH THE INFRINGMENT UPON HER LIFE: She ran away to a free state.

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE EVENT: A year before they were about to change laws for slaves, Sojourner's owner promised to let her go if she was a good worker. She worked very hard, but he did not keep his promise.

HOW DID SHE REACT: When she found out that she was not going to be let free, Sojourner ran away.

HOW DID SHE SURVIVE: She found a family to stay by, and they bought her for $20, but they allowed her to call them by their first names, and they were very kind to her. She liked them so much better than her old master.

WHAT TONE WILL SHE TAKE WHEN TELLING THE STORY: She will be sad or scared at first, but when she finally finds the family in the end, she will be very happy.
